Иако су познати по "ватреној" прослави Божића, наши људи у Џексону баштине традицију дугу век и по. Црква Светог Саве, из 1894, прва је српска светиња у Северној Америци.

Да, већ годинама свет обиђу снимци пуцњаве са наше прославе Божића у Џексону. Медији, углавном, преносе да је реч о необичном, али традиционалном начину обележавања најрадоснијег хришћанског празника. Но, нико да "загребе" испод те вести, нико да каже и напише коју реч више о најстаријој српској цркви у Америци и о богатој историји Срба у овом калифорнијском градићу, дугој готово век и по.

Овако, за "Новости", говори отац Марко Бојовић, свештеник храма Светог Саве у Џексону, светиње која је равно 124 године важан духовни, верски и културни центар Срба на америчкој Западној обали.

Slobodan (Danny) Ćurčić, professor of art and archaeology, emeritus, at Princeton University, and a global authority on Byzantine art and architecture, died Dec. 3 in Thessaloniki, Greece. He was 76.

Ćurčić was a prolific scholar whose work examined a wide spectrum of topics across southeast Europe. Among his areas of focus were late-Roman and early-Christian archaeological remains in Cyprus, Greece and Serbia; decoration of Byzantine-Norman churches in Sicily; and architecture in the Byzantine Balkans from late antiquity to the Ottoman era.

Born Dec. 19, 1940, in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina (the former Yugoslavia), Ćurčić grew up in Belgrade, Serbia. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and in 1975 received his Ph.D. from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, writing a dissertation on the Late Byzantine church at Gračanica.

Фестивал је отворио филм највећег српског редитеља Емира Кустурице „На млечном путу“, а приказан је и наш најбољи филм “Реквијем за госпођу Ј”, који је кандидат српске кинематографије за овогодишњег Оскара, за најбоље инострано остварење. Специјалан гост из Холивуда била је Марија Каран, а из Београда наше глумице Христина Поповић и Маша Дакић. Присуствовали су званичници Србије и Републике Српске и СПЦ. Фестивал је био посвећен сећању на филмског великана Љубишу Самарџића, а приказан је и његов филм "Панта Реи". Фестивал испунио очекивања организатора и публике.

The first English edition of the book The Basic Principle by Laza Kostic was presented for the first time to an American audience at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA on October 18, 2017. This is the first in a series of events dedicated to the life and work of Laza Kostic (1841 – 1910) on the North American Continent. One of Serbia’s most distinguished poets of romanticism, Laza Kostic was also a philosopher, translator, critic, and writer.

Енглеско издање књиге „Основно начело“ Лазе Костића у издању библиотеке града Сомбора „Карло Бијелицки“ је први пут представљено америчкој публици на Дјукејн универзитету у Питсбургу у Сједињеним америчким државама 18. октобра 2017. године. Овим догађајем је на северноамеричком континенту започето представљање дела и живота Лазе Костића (1841 – 1910), једног од најзначајнијих српских песника романтизма, филозофа, преводиоца, критичара и драматурга.

Deacon David-John Williams of Saint Petka Serbian Orthodox Church, San Marcos California, presented dr Charalambos Dendrinos The Christian Heritage of Kosovo and Metohija: The Historical and Spiritual Heartland of the Serbian People.

Dr Dendrinos is the director of the Hellenic Institute at Royal Holloway University of London where Deacon David is a PhD candidate and the Patriarch Bartholomaios scholar.
