Глобализација отвара могућности за нове видове комуникације, сарадње и размене, али са собом носи и опасност од изједначавања, брисања разлика и потискивања свега оног што нас чини самосталним, посебним и другачијим, оценио је у Уједињеним нацијама (УН) министар културе и информисања Србије Иван Тасовац.

Учествујући у тематској дебати о култури и одрживом развоју после 2015.године, Тасовац је изразио задовољство што је култура препозната као покретач, гласноговорник, заштитник и путоказ економског, друштвеног и еколошког принципа одрживог развоја.

On the occasion of the European Month of Culture pianist and composer Dimitrije Vasiljevic will perform in Washington DC in a solo piano concert presented by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in collaboration with the Embassy of Serbia in the United States and LeitmotivArts.

Vasiljevic will perform his original compositions from his upcoming solo piano album as well as works of some well-known American jazz masters in his own arrangements.

Vladimir Tasić i Igor Štiks, autori Arhipelaga, učestvuju na ovogodišnjem književnom festivalu Glasovi sveta koji se održava od 28. aprila do 4. maja u Njujorku u organizaciji Američkog PEN centra.

Tasić i Štiks učestvuju i u posebnom festivalskom programu koji je posvećen književnosti Balkana. Zajedno sa njima, književnost Balkana na čitanju u Bruklinu 3. maja predstaviće Aleksandar Hemon, Ognjen Spahić i Miljenka Mika Buljević.

Join us in Celebrating 200 Years of Serbs in America

The celebration of 200 years of Serbs in America will be held on Vidovdan, June 28, 2014 in the city of Philadelphia, in front of the Independence Hall where both the declaration of American independence and the founding of the Constitution took place.

It has been two centuries since the first Serb, Djordje Sagic, also known as Judge George Fisher, arrived to America through the Port of Philadelphia. The first period of immigration dated from 1820 to 1880. The early immigrants who came in larger numbers to America, came mostly from the coast of Montenegro (The Bay of Kotor) and Dalmatia known for their long-time seafaring tradition. The second period of immigration dated from the 1880s to the second decade of the twentieth century.

Супротно уверењу да су највеће српске насеобине у Америци биле у Чикагу и Питсбургу, прва православна црква изграђена је у Калифорнији, у градићу Џексон у подножју Сијера Неваде 1894. године, открива Милина Јовановић у књизи о српској дијаспори у САД „Сви путеви воде у Џексон”. Фокусирајући се на мали калифорнијски градић у којем је српска емиграција својевремено чинила трећину становништва, Јовановићева портретише галерију ликова од рудара до сенатора. Међу њима су вероватно најзанимљивији лик и дело Мила Радуловића чија судбина искаче из локалних оквира и умногоме одређује ток савремене америчке историје.

Дела Илије Башичевића Босиља и Димитрија Башичевића Мангелоса представљена су у Галерији „Сент Етјен” у Њујорку 24. априла на изложби која је названа Илија/Мангелос, „Фадер енд сан, инсајд енд аут”.

Мангелос је доживео низ значајних групних и самосталних изложби последњих година, ушао у најважније светске музеје (МОМА, Тејт, Помпиду, и др.) али је увек излаган искључиво као истакнути протоконцептуални уметник. Као такав је и освануо на насловној страни најновије књиге о светској концептуалној уметности, у издању музеја Центар „Жорж Помпиду” (Мишел Гoтје, Арт концептуел, Париз, 2013).
