Dr. Slobodan Ćuk was a full-time Professor of Electrical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology until January 1, 2000. During that time, more than 30 students obtained their Ph.D. degree in Power Electronics under Dr. Ćuk's guidance. Many of them are now leading researchers and/or Professors of Power Electronics in the U.S. and abroad.
Dr. Stevanovic is a professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. He is known internationally for his expertise in problems of the hands and upper extremity. He has extensive experience working with patients with peripheral nerve injuries, trauma, burns, microvascular and rheumatoid problems affecting the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder. He is also a leading authority in reconstructive microsurgery and limb and digit replantation.

Berislav V. Zlokovic, an internationally recognized leader in the research of Alzheimer disease and stroke from the University of Rochester Medical Center, has been appointed to the position of professor and chair of the Department of Physiology and Biophysics in the Keck School of Medicine, effective Dec. 15. Zlokovic has also been named the director of the new Center for Neurodegeneration and Regeneration at the Zilkha Neurogenetic Institute.

LOUISVILLE, KY – On an unseasonably hot February day, Tom Jurich welcomed us to his third floor office on the campus of the University of Louisville. We were 2-1/2 hours early, but his door swung open wide despite our inability to jump time zones correctly.
Born and raised in Southern California, Tom Jurich of SNF Lodge #95-Lovcen-Los Angeles, was apologetic for the heat as if it was his fault. “We don’t turn the air conditioning on this early,” he said, an explanation we already heard from his receptionist who called her desktop fan her “new BFF.” We were immediately at ease, and the friendliness of the entire office far outweighed the heat.
It was Mercia Martich of Northridge, California, who sent us in the direction of the Tom Jurich story initially. She said he was a SNF member and someone to hoot about, adding, “He is not only successful, but a fine gentleman and a family man, too.”
The present book consists of Elder Vaileios' talks, discussions and dialogues in various venues mostly in the United States during his visit in 2011, along with excerpts from his writings selected to complement the themes of his talks. The themes dealt with by Fr. Vasileios so eloquently in this book are extraordinarily wide-ranging; he handles complex and difficult issues in theology, spirituality, liturgics, parish life and monasticism with amazing clarity and insight. He quotes with equal facility from figures as diverse as Heraclitus, Dostoevsky, St. Isacc the Syrian, St. Maximus the Confessor, Stefan Zweig, Andrei Tarkovsky, Vladimir Lossy, Georges Florovsky and St. Nicholas Cabasilas. Above all, there is an exhilarating sense of freedom and innocence in his thought. It is the freedom and innocence of profound faith and spiritual knowledge and childlike simplicity. HIs wisnow is expressed via the "hyperlogic" of a hesychastic spriti, which makes for surprising connections and illuminating insights.
The appearance of this new book by Archimandrite Vaileios is truly a cuase for celebration.
